High-Speed Action Kicks Off Day One of the iQFOiL INTERNATIONAL Games at the 2025 Venora EngadinWinD

Silvaplana, Switzerland – 19 August 2025

Day one of the iQFOiL International Games at the 2025 Venora EngadinWind in Silvaplana delivered everything the sport is known for: speed, adrenaline, and world-class racing. With athletes traveling from across the globe, the event once again confirmed its reputation as one of the premier international gatherings for foiling windsurfing.

Right on schedule, perfect winds of 18–24 knots swept across Lake Silvaplana, setting the stage for five back-to-back course races. The action featured the Senior Men and Women’s fleets, alongside the U19 category, which also gave some U17 sailors the chance to step up and gain valuable experience on the larger rigs.

They call it champagne sailing — and today, Silvaplana delivered.

In the Women’s fleet, Peru’s Maria Belem Bazo German, 4th place finisher at the 2024 Olympic Games, proved unstoppable. Returning to competition, she dominated with a flawless scorecard of five straight wins, leaving no doubt about her form.

The U19 Girls fleet saw the UK’s Sophie Clark find her rhythm as the day progressed, finishing strongly in the final three races to position herself well for the week ahead.

Fresh from his U17 World Title in France, the Netherlands’ Merlijn Boswijk carried his winning momentum straight into the U19 Boys category. He showed maturity beyond his years, taking command of the leaderboard after day one.

Meanwhile, in the Senior Men’s fleet, Slovakian’s Robert Kubin delivered a statement performance. Untouchable across the day, Kubin started his campaign with a dream debut — a perfect run of victories that puts him in pole position moving forward.

With consistent winds, breathtaking scenery, and top-tier competition, day one once again highlighted Silvaplana’s status as a world-class venue for watersports.

The iQFOiL Games continue tomorrow, promising more high-speed, high-adrenaline racing on Lake Silvaplana.
