Extreme Conditions Crown Mina Mobekk and Nicolò Renna

The iQFOiL Open European Championships reached its thrilling climax today on the final day of the event, showcasing the immense skill and determination of the athletes in the face of extreme weather conditions. Battling fierce winds exceeding 40 knots, Mina Mobekk from Norway and Nicolò Renna from Italy emerged as the new European Champions.

Patras, Greece - 14 May 2023

The gusty winds presented a formidable challenge, pushing the athletes to their limits as they grappled with the unwieldy 9m2 sail for men and 8m2 sail for women. Despite the challenging circumstances, Mobekk demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, securing her well-deserved victory.


In the U21 category, Mobekk continued to shine, clinching the gold medal alongside Grae Morris in the open division. The young Norwegian rider showcased remarkable talent and determination, solidifying her status as a rising star in the sport. Nacho Baltasar Summers from Spain, along with Mobekk, claimed gold in the European U21 category, further highlighting the bright future of windsurfing.


The iQFOiL Open European Championships 2023 captivated spectators, showcasing the relentless pursuit of excellence by the athletes. The event not only celebrated the newly crowned European Champions but also displayed the fierce competition and camaraderie within the windsurfing community.


As the competition drew to a close, the organizers and participants expressed their gratitude for the exciting and memorable event. The extreme conditions challenged the athletes' skills and endurance, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the sport.


With the iQFOiL Open European Championships now concluded, the windsurfing world eagerly awaits the upcoming qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Which the first one will be in Scheveningen, The Netherlands during the Allianz Sailing Worlds later this summer.
